CCTV Interview on Tibet and Sea Buckthorn

We are delighted to share that we were interviewed by CCTV-7 Daily Agricultural Experience on “Tibet and Sea Buckthorn” (CCTV-7 每日農经:沙棘果的冰雪奇缘) on 27/12/2018.

The video covers multiple aspects of sea buckthorn and the Tibetan Plateau: sociological, ecological, cultural and health. In terms of sociological, the harvesting of sea buckthorn brings extra income to local farmers, which alleviates poverty and improves their living standards. Apart from that, from an ecological perspective, as sea buckthorn can survive in the harsh environment of desert areas, it was planted in many areas in the Tibetan Plateau to pervert desertification and soil erosion. Moreover, sea buckthorn also has a strong ability to provide nutrients to surrounding plants, increasing vegetation levels.

From a cultural perspective, the use of sea buckthorn has long been integrated into the lives of locals. Sea buckthorn jam is prepared and served with lamb chops. Moreover, with a sweet and sour taste, it can be used with yogurt, or spread on food. Furthermore, the active ingredients in sea buckthorn are found to have many functions, such as anti-oxidation, anti-hypoxia, improving immunity and physical strength.
